Hi there,

I just wanted to announce the availability of "small-gentoo X" (for x86), "small gentoo"'s 10th release

for a mirrorlist - please scroll down to the end of this first post

this should make installation for you guys/girls using sis, marvell, nvidia & other sata-controllers easier (2.6.21-based)

this CD offers some goodies such as a GUI & beryl (only for nvidia-users, unless you get

Just a question; Did you drop ext4 support from the kernel?? Or is it the new e2fsprogs (1.40) that don't have ext4 patches??

Alright! Trying it out and using it well. Thanks a lot for:

Reiser4 support: I always seem to find the right CD, and then a lack of FS support on it.
X server: Yesss!! With all the time spent on my main computer compiling, i'm glad somebody recognized the need to go beyond links text browsing.
Xchat: Enough said.
i8k kernel module: I run into a compiler error every now and then while I'm away. It's mostly because these Dell laptops won't turn on their fans. Now I have fan control from within my chroot'd system.
Nvidia support: When I'm not using Beryl, it helps that my CPU isn't crunching on graphics.
Beryl: Sometimes I feel like I'm dumb for eye candy, and then I feel smart again when I have my windows organized over multiple desktops (shh ;o).
Ntfs-3g: Seems to work okay. Allows me to look up the keys to my wireless network.
Wpa-supplicant: Allows me to use the keys for my wireless network.
CD: Didn't have to go out and buy DVD-Rs. Or wait three days for it to download.

The worst problem is that I have to move that xorg config file to the right place. Boo hoo :roll:

. I'm loving this CD.

As always, KoT, your work is very much appreciated. Even with 2.6.18 kernels with jmicron support near ubiquitous now, I still tend to use your CDs.

you should really be doing "eselect opengl set ati --dst-prefix=/etc/opengl" to make it work with read only mount (/usr is a link to /mnt/livecd/usr).

unionfs is a mess in 2.6.21, and its not going into 2.6.22 either. So, we need to wait till 2.6.23 maybe. Keep patching kernel till then.

I seem to have confused root with user password on some releases of that CD so if you try to log on to root or user

try out 'user' or 'root' as password :roll:

You need to be very careful distributing stuff with pre-compiled binary kernel modules like nvidia-drivers. I believe you're not actually allowed to do this, but I could be wrong.

Hi,

i'm trying to install on a MSI P35 Neo. Tried all three alternate kernels that come with small-gentoo_x86-X.iso, but they all fail with the same error as the Gentoo 2007.0 CD:

Yay that worked! I've used a SystemRescueCd and booted from a old SCSI-CDROM. Thanks goodness i didn't trash it at eBay.

So i have my new Gentoo running but i still miss my burner (IDE-DVD connected to the onboard IDE).

Looks like a great CD. Hope it will let me install Gentoo on my new desktop.

Though, I cannot figure out the root password. Neither 'root' nor 'user' works. :cry:

Moreover, I try to run fdisk and cannot find which letter corresponds to my hard drive. With SATA hard drives, I was looking for /dev/sda or /dev/sdaX if I remember well, but here there is only /dev/sda, and it will not mount (maybe due to the password thing).
Please, help... :cry:

Frankly, why to put a password on a LiveCD, to begin with ? This is really too frustrating: I finally find a CD that will boot the machine (kudos for that), but then it will not let me do anything with it for no reason.
