Since there is some really great wallpaper on this page, I'd like to put it all in a common tarball on breakmygentoo.net. As a result, I will be contacting each of you who has contributed a wallpaper and making sure that it is ok with you if I include your wallpaper. There will be a CREDITS file in the tarball to give everyone credit for there work. I will also make an ebuild so that users of the site can get the wallpapers easily. And who knows, we might even be able to get this into portage
So many thanks to everyone for these great wallpapers, and I'll be getting back to you as soon as I can

btw....if you have anything that is not on this thread (I've just been through the whole thing) and you would like it in the tarball, feel free to send it to karl1@breakmygentoo.net.
Ok....everyone has a pm now....so please respond ASAP! I'd love to get this tarball up there. The tarball AND ebuild are now ready, so I'm just waiting on responses. In a few days, if I haven't gotten responses, I'm going to assume this stuff is GPL (You did post it to a public forum), and that you don't mind your work going in. If this happens and you have a problem with it, please tell me and I'll promptly take care of removing your work.
Thanks,
Karl |

At the moment, the ebuild installs all the wallpapers into:
/opt/gentoo-wallpapers/
I know this is asking for a flood of suggestions, but is there anyone who can think of a better location for this collection of wallpapers?

Sounds like it ought to go into /usr/share/. |

So then would anyone be opposed to:
/usr/share/gentoo-wallpapers
or should we do:
/usr/share/wallpapers/gentoo

/usr/share/wallpapers/gentoo would be inline with the naming convention I guess..

I think /usr/share/gentoo-wallpapers would be more appropriate, as there aren't any other wallpapers lying around waiting to be bundled in ebuilds. |

No, there aren't any other wallpapers ready to be bundled for other packages.....
It also raises the question of when does the gentoo wallpaper collection become too big? I don't think we'll need to worry about this just yet, but within a year, it might become an issue.
Edit: This stuff is ready to roll. I will probably roll it out sometime Wednesday Morning (US Central), so if there are any last minute complaints, suggestions, or additions, please send them to:
karl1@breakmygentoo.net
They will install to /usr/share/gentoo-wallpapers unless someone can come up with a better location.
Again, thanks to all who have created this art

I have on my system /usr/share/gentoo/icons where the Gentoo icon set lives. Using these conventions, we should make sure to install in:
/usr/share/gentoo/wallpapers
If you agree, please voice your vote of aggreance in the form of a thread reply. Same if you disagree, but if you disagree explain why we should not put the wallpapers there.
Also this will probably be released this evening, as there has been enough input over the past few hours for me to still consider this open development. So there is still time to get your wallpaper in or out of the collection. Just please be quick and cordial with your requests.

ok....since this is now a new ebuild that is on breakmygentoo and has been submitted to bugzilla, I thought it a good idea to start a new thread in Desktop Environments to raise awareness of the work. That thread can be found here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=352643#352643
Thanks for everything
