So, I know I've seen this somewhere, probably a thread here, but I've run a couple of searches and found nothing. I'm running root (/) on ext4dev and e2fsprogs-1.39-r1 (yeah, I know it's broken) and forgot to disable the automatic check during boot. So, e2fsck was run on my root partition and a countless number of messages such as this one were shown:
| Code: | | Inode 555779 has EXTENT_FL set, but is not in extents format. |
Anyway, everything seems to be OK, should I be worried about this? Is my root partition being optimized/unoptimized by a broken e2fsprogs?
Thanks. |

Hi Pse,
I have the exact same problem since the day one I started using ext4dev but haven't found a solution to that yet. I have tried using different kernels & different sources of patched e2fsprogs but with no luck whatsoever. As long as I write smth to disk after I have format it an mount it with '-extends' option, all the fscks after that give me alike errors. Sometimes after using the fs for a period I might end up with some duplicate files as well after an fsck (in the form *~*) but haven;t lost any data yet. Anyway I have to admit it a bit annoying.
If you (or anyone else ) has any idea please share it !! _________________ http://mywebspace.wordpress.com/ |

Hi again,
After some testing it turns out that the problem should have smth to do with the livecd used to format ext4 partition initially. I could think either of the kernel or the version of e2fsprogs. I used to have the same problem for some time know with both my / and /home partition. The live cd I had used to format them was small-gentoo x86-r9. I recently reformatted my /home partition again but this time from my running pc and it turns out that problem has gone. I am currently running klight sources2 (ext4-updates-2.6.21-2.patch) and using e2fsprogs from here http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tytso/e2fsprogs-interim/LATEST/.
Hope that helps a bit. _________________ http://mywebspace.wordpress.com/ |

Hi, thanks for the heads up! I'll probably reformat my / partition in a couple of days with a new kernel and see what happens, thanks a lot |
