Hi.

The Gentoo KDE team has just unmasked 3.5.7. Please help us iron out any remaining issues.

[mod]Unstuck this thread as discussion should now move on to the KDE--3.5.8 thread.[/mod]

does it take a while for packages.gentoo.org to get updated cause it's still showing 3.5.7 hardmasked.

Despite all the whining in that previous thread, I suspect that this KDE release and associated Gentoo ebuilds will be SOLID GOLD, just like in the past. I'm often right about this kind of thing.

Let's see... a full KDE build on an Athlon 2500+... yeah, I'll let you know by tomorrow night, heheh.

The kpilot-3.5.7 is still masked.

Code:
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "~kde-base/kpilot-3.5.7" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- kde-base/kpilot-3.5.7 (masked by: package.mask)
# Diego Pettenò <flameeyes@gentoo.org> (27 Jan 2007)
# Masked because a dependency is missing in Portage.
# See bug #163853

Any workaround?

I guess you can unmask it manually or wait for a couple of hours for the cvs changes to propagate to the rsync mirrors.

To unmask:

Code:
echo "=kde-base/kpilot-3.5.7" >> /etc/portage/package.unmask

Thanx for the tip!
However kpilot-3.5.7 needs pilot-link-0.12.0 but on portage the latest is 0.11.8-r1 so I guess I have to wait for an update.
After all, good things come to those who wait :)

I had the same problem. I added "kde-base/kdepim-meta -pda" to the /etc/portage/package.use file.

Same here...

Edit : Add "=kde-base/kcminit-3.5.6 ~yourarch" to /usr/portage/package.keywords... :)

Menu Editor (kmenuedit) does not start when right-clicking the menu button. It does start when you right click an item in the menu to edit and it also starts in the run dialog, but while no error comes up when you click save, no changes are saved.

I'm not sure I've ever made changes to the menu successfully with kmenuedit. I accept it as a quirk, it gives it character. It's not a bug, it's a feature. That kind of thing, you know.

mkk,
I've had that problem in the past and it had been because even though I had installed a new KDE version, I did not restart the X Server, so I was still technically running in the older version and the new version had not been loaded yet... if that makes any sense haha

Of course you could have already done all of that and this post is useless

hello, im new to gentoo.
I emerged kde 3.5.7 (not the whole, just kdebase-startkde and some others).
Now I have a problem: every time I logout (both as user and root) the screen blanks and I cant get back to kdm.
I can't switch to other console (ctrl+alt+F1, etc), ctrl+alt+backspace doesnt work either. Im stuck.
Ctrl+alt+del works, so I at least I dont have to reset.. but still, this is annoying.
Any idea? Did I miss anything?
Thanks

Menu editor does't work for me also. I can't start it from kicker or kcontrol. But it works from konsole.

Klaptop also doesn't work.

Kmilo doesn't work, but kmilo-3.5.6 works.

Are you sure that your previous config files are not interfering with their operation? If you had a previous KDE installed, that can happen. Try running them from Konsole to see if they complain.

I removed .kde3.5 completly. Now, the shortcuts do not work. I set Win+S for Konsole. It works, but after a logout it doesn't work.
In addition, when I set Cycle through windows in Win+TAB I have to press enter to actually change the window.

F*CK. They have had these shortcuts problem for several versions now (see some cycle through windows bugs in gentoo and kde) and it still doesn't work without problems. Isn't that crazy? I feel like I am able to reach the moon but I am stuck in my city train... Please, I want a completely working version, and shortcuts are very important...

Sorry, I'm a bit angry. Unfortunately, I cannot do more than writing bug reports...

Sorry, I don't know much about KDM. After the screen blanks, have you tried doing the normal Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart X completely. Does KDM have an option to restart the X server completely when you logout (I know GDM does)?

I'm trying to upgrade to kde 3.7

So far I ve only had 2 problems. I had kdesktop blocking kdebase-kioslaves (the strange thing was I had 3.5.5, I wanted to emerge 3.5.7 and it complained that 3.5.6-r1 was blcking kdebase-kioslaves). So tried the easy way : unmerging kdesktop. Seems to work :D no more blocking and emerge --pretend says that kdesktop 3.5.7 will be compiled.

I ve just encountered a bug. I ve put the ~x86 keywords to every package that is needed to upgrade kdebase-meta and then I ve run a emerge -uDpv world. After some merging, it has failed on ksysguard saying it could nt locate some ssd library. So I ve ran emerge -pv kdelibs to check USE flags, and I found the problem : kdnssd-avahi has not been compiled before ksysguard. I guess the ebuild miss this dependency. So if you encounter that problem juste emerge --oneshot the kdnssd-avahi package and get back to ksysguard

Just my 2 cents

PS : thanks to the whole gentoo kde support team for all the ebuilds :D
