|
|
I was cleaning cruft off my system and I noticed the directory /usr/share/locale. I have already configured my system with LINGUAS="en" and built glibc with this from the beginning, so I was wondering where these files came from. Looking at an equery d it seems that a few gnome apps and a few other misc programs depend on the files in that dir.
Is it possible to just delete everything here without screwing things up? Is there a better/safer way to remove these files? |

There is an app by the name of localepurge, but I have read some where that there are some apps that may need those files. |

I'm assuming there must be a better way to prevent these files from appearing in the first place.
Also, to clarify... if I built my system with USE="-nls" this won't affect any english language things, correct? |

I think thats a catch22, some ebuilds seem to complain if that flag is not set, but I'm still new to Gentoo. |

Don't forget that USE flags only control optional features. For some applications the use of /usr/share/locales may not be optional. |
