I say it "hangs" because it doesn't exactly "hang", or doesn't appear to hang. The dialogue box is quite responsive - it's just it skips from package 50 all the way to 100% (when there are purportedly 120 to install). Then it sticks at 100%, and nothing happens. I can press cancel, but I don't really want to do that.

My ethernet wasn't working before, but after removing and starting forcedeth with msi=0 and msix=0 that's working (and I'm posting using the subject computer).

I'm using an Asus Striker Extreme (680i) with a Kentsfield (Core 2) Q6600.

Anyone have any clues? :?

Edit: The LiveCD I'm using is the amd64 2007.0 one.

Edit 2: Not sure what other info's needed. Please specify! :)

Edit 3: Whilst I'm waiting I'm trying a stage tarball from the 'net since my ethernet is now working. Perhaps that's be successful :?

Edit 4: Now I'm stuck on "Syncing the Portage tree"

Edit 5: When I press cancel, clear the partition table, and try to select the recommended layout, it comes up with
Quote:
Could not create <PedFileSystemType object at 0x958c00> filesystem on /dev/sda1
If there's anything you so much as think might help, please reply! restarting and having to go through this again and again is not my idea of fun ... :?

Edit 6: Well, it's utterly sucking my bandwidth, so even though the dialogue box isn't moving and all four cores are at 0% usage, that's a good sign, right?

Edit 7:

Edit 8:
ZOMG it's working (for now :D)

Edit 9:
Now I'm waiting for kernel sources to download (I really hate not being able to see what it's doing). But I think the issue is solved, so I'm changing the title to reflect this.

For the record: Just update the LiveCD installer if you're getting the same problem.

I'm confused - why are you using the amd64 CD with an Intel processor? Is that what supports Intel 64 bit processors as well as AMD? I don't remember if Kentsfield is a 64 bit processor or not.

It does support AMD64, but Intel ripped the instruction set off of AMD and renamed it EMT64 ;) (Kentsfield is two Conroes stuck together, basically)

By the way, the installer crashed :?

Edit: Well I've been up for 24 hours trying to do this, so I really need some sleep (the light burns :?), and prior to sleeping the last time I was up for over 24 hours building that computer. So, hopefully, someone'll have a clue as to what's going on with this whilst I'm asleep. In any case, I'm giving up until then.

The latest few attempts get me to the user add screen then won't let me click on forward, or backward. No errors in the installer's logs at all. Yes, at that point I'd added a user, and it's displayed in the user table.

/collapses

Edit: Okay, I decided to do it the good (not) old fashioned way. The issue isn't solved however.
