my kernel is 2.6.21-gentoo, come to think of it...i too upgraded my kernel from 2.6.19 about a month back, about the time when it stopped working.
(using ~x86)
will be interesting if kde-357 makes a difference _________________ I might not have morals...but at least I have standards |

Yesterday I update to gcc-4.2 and do an emerge -uDN, so the system is up to date.
PS: I use a RSA key to connect to the host, I don't know if this is point. |
Out of curiosity, have you re-started KDE since you updated kdenetwork? I ask because on my main Desktop fish:// was still working fine until I restarted KDE. I had found it odd that it was broke on my my laptop after updating and not the desktop. I started thinking about what could be different and the only thing I could think of was restarting KDE. That made my desktop break. |
I'm in a lazy machine with connect to a X server. The lazy machine it restarted two o three times a day, but the server don't restart, but the X-system it's restarted every time I switch off the lazy machine. So I think I can answer YES to the question. |

I have gcc 4.1.2, kioslaves 3.5.5, kdenetwork 3.5.5-r2, Gentoo sources 2.6.21-r4 and am running amd64 (stable). Running revdep-rebuild doesn't rebuild anything (yeah, except that stupid ati-drivers over and over but I know why). Protocol FISH doesn't work for me either and it's not new, I think. I just didn't pay attention to it. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

This has been broken for months on my ~amd64 box and the bug was reported ages ago. I'm running KDE-3.5.7 and the bug is still there even in this release!
I'm running kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r1 but don't think it's kernel related.
Strange thing is, it works if I run it via a console!

Posted: Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:13 pm Post subject: What are these kioslaves? Why are they all blocked but one? |
|
|
I need some lights on these kioslaves: I've realized there was only one kioslave package that could be installed on my system: kdesdk-kioslaves-3.5.5. It is depended on by kdevelop-3.3.5.
Then there is one thing I don't understand: all kioslave packages but one are blocked on my system. Does it mean I already have some kioslaves with my KDE installation? (I've installed KDE with emerge kde.)
emerge -pvq kdebase-kioslaves: | [ebuild N ] kde-base/kdialog-3.5.5 USE="-arts -debug -kdeenablefinal -kdehiddenvisibility -xinerama"
[ebuild N ] kde-base/kdebase-kioslaves-3.5.5-r1 USE="hal samba -arts -debug -kdeenablefinal -kdehiddenvisibility -ldap -openexr -xinerama"

[blocks B ] =kde-base/kdialog-3.5* (is blocking kde-base/kdebase-3.5.5-r4) |
I see nothing that blocks kdebase-kioslaves in kdebase ebuild and vice-versa:

How does that blocking mechanism occur then?
Now could it be that those kioslaves from kdesdk-kioslaves are messing up with my KDE installation? I mean since I have KDE 3.5.x and kdevelop is only 3.3.y... _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

Strange, yesterday it did work fine when I did
konqueror fish://192.168.0.7
in a console but maybe it was a fluke because now I'm getting the same error as everyone else!
This is the output I get if it helps

Just as an update, another possible means of returning functionality to fish is this (see Branko's post in bug 177035): Code: | 1. Add KDE_FORK_SLAVES=1 to /etc/env.d/45kdepaths-3.5
2. Source /etc/profile | This works for me without building kioslaves with debug USE flag, _________________ I love gentoo, but I am certainly no guru, despite what it says above. |

My fish:// didn't work after an upgrade to kde 3.5.7. The problem was that kded wasn't started by kde (or it died?) and I had to start it by hand.

I read somewhere that running
KDE_FORK_SLAVES=true konqueror
should help and to a degree it did, I now get a different error!
In case it means anything to someone more knowledgeable than me, here's what I get
fred@athlon64 ~ $ KDE_FORK_SLAVES=true konqueror

I'm running kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r1 and kde-3.5.7-r3 and the problem is still there so upgrading won't help. I'm going to try kernel-2.6.22-gentoo-r4 anyway. If I don't reply, it hasn't made any difference!
I'm pretty sure it's a kde bug rather than kernel as some have suggested, but it's been around for quite some time now. |

Hi @all,
since a few days i have the same problem, not sure if it was a upgrade which has murdered fish but it's exactly the same.
Seems to be a misterious issue. I was not able to solve it with the examples here.
I'm running 2.6.21-ck2-r1 ~x86 so it seems not to be an issue with gentoo-sources only.
best,

Had the same problem. It got solved by upgrading openssl to 0.9.8e-r1. It has a patch to make it run properly on gcc 4.2. Without that patch it compiles just fine, but some apps won't run as they should. Hope it'll work for some of you. _________________ Never argue with an idiot. Funny, I have the same problem with fish:// but not with sftp://. Sftp works fine. And also I'm using amd64 and kde 3.5.7 and kernel 2.6.21-gentoo-r4. |

I have installed a clean gentoo installation on my box and fish doesn't work either. Ssh works from the shell though. So I though maybe try sftp. It worked. But after a reboot al sftp says is Quote: | An error occurred while loading sftp://<host>:
Authentication failed. | . While I don't get an authentication screen.
Trying to compile ioslaves with debug on, hope it helps. _________________ Please try http://www.voidofspace.com |

Dear All,
On my system:
Qt: 3.3.8
KDE: 3.5.7
kde-config: 1.0
2.6.22-gentoo-r2 / x86_64 AMD
I get the same error. When I run KDE_FORK_SLAVES=true konqueror fish://..., konqueror does connect but as soon as I transfer a file it dies with the same error. I also tried updating openssl because I had these same error:
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: PKCS7_content_free
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OPENSSL_add_all_algorithms
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms_conf
as described here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-565653-highlight-.html
The update didn't solve my fish:// problem, although I haven't tried recompiling the kioslave libs after the update yet.
I'm wondering if anyone is able to transfer files with fish if the kioslaves is compiled with the debug option enabled?
One more thing, sftp:// is working fine here to, so I'm puzzled about how this can be a kernel related problem? What is the difference between fish:// and sftp:// ?
Cheers,
abelius |

Anyway, thanks. Hopefully fish:// won't be irratic. |
