Hey,
I'm configuring Alsa to work with a USB soundcard (Tascam 122) and with my laptop soundcard.
In kernel config, would it be wise to disable OSS? I'm going to be using the alsa driver, so I figure it would be... Am I wrong?
Please bear with me, I'm new to linux and I'm just getting the hang of it.

If you are using alsa, then yes, you should absolutely disable oss.
I've found very few apps that still actually require oss support, and for those few the oss emulation alsa provides works just fine. _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

I have OSS disabled in my kernel, and it has never caused a problem. |

For those using old software which is still not ported to alsa, you can still enable oss emulation through alsa in your kernel. Most oss programs should work ok with that emulation enabled, and you will not need oss for anything. |
