update:

Desultory unlocked the thread.

sugar (appreciation.desultory) = +10

My Dawkins thread on OTW got locked. The russian girl is new and she was probably unaware of the boundries. Could we not just delete the posts and give her a warning?

It's somewhat ironic that I'm trying to subvertly raise the profile of atheism, and open discussion on it (rather than 'you beleive in god, you dumbass!'), and the thread got locked after 4 pages. I was enjoying my discussion with Historian. It was getting complex. I learnt somethings from it!

Will you do it for me? I've never been banned and I generally follow the rules. I feel like I get on with most everyone. If she mucks up again, then I won't say anything.

edit: oh! I thought she was banned. Apparently she wasn't. I'm not 100% sure whats going on, but my comments still stand.

Just be thankful you didn't get banned. You never know when somebody's going to misconstrue something you said as a personal attack or something. :P

While deleting the posts is not really an option, splitting them off is. If you find that I missed any that should have been split off, please report them. As for a warning, one was given and I am entirely willing to leave it at that.

To a first approximation, yes.

It is a reasonable request, regardless.

When a user is banned explicit note is made of that fact.

Which begs the question: is there a deeper meaning to the progression of pikachu to Stalin to Obama to nothing?

So am I banned permanently? Nobody ever told me.

Oh, and for what it's worth, Sugar is the most non-confrontational individual in all of OTW.

Obviously! It all makes perfect sense if you think about it!

Not permanent, just lengthy given that by now you should know better.

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, the ban has been lifted too.

I got banned back before Christmas some time (for characterizing someone's trolling argument as "dribble spewing forth from their coconut" or something along those lines), and I'm still banned.

I contacted the person who did it (Pilla), but go no response. Starting about a month ago, I figured it must be permanent (which seems a bit harsh, considering the stuff that goes on routinely in there), but en brera. It's not like I don't have other things to do.

Technically, it wasn't even a personal attack. It was so borderline it shouldn't have earned anything but a warning. I just "sounded" like a personal attack. And the guy I said it to had provoked it by just calling me "Empty headed". He should have been banned for that -- no me for responding to it.

I'm convinced it is simply that the mods/admins tend to see someone as "antagonistic" or a "trouble-maker" simply because they don't agree with their viewpoints, which is unfortunate, given that their challenge is to be unbaised arbiters and moderators. And given the nature of this venue, most of the mods and admins (like most of the general population in this venue) tend to be pretty far off-center on the general, global, political spectrum. Woe is me.

Well it appears that you are unbanned so now you can blow off all those better things.

We're in forum feedback, not OTW. Last I checked, I was still banned.

Edit: Lo and behold. I am unbanned. Thank you, desultory. :)

As far as I remember, I've forwarded your request to the other moderators. Next time, use the forum-mods@ alias (or don't get banned again, last ban was 8 weeks, next one will be 16 or permanent).

I don't know your POV neither I care about it as long as you are clearly following the forum rules. Every time you go in a gray zone, we do whatever we think is more suitable for the situation. We are here to provide user support for Gentoo, not a place where you exercise your freedom of speech.
