|

Hi all,
I've got said mobo with a pentium 4 on a fresh 64bit gentoo system, 2.6.20-gentoo-r4 working.
I've stuck a hauppauge win-tv card with bt878 chip into the box and it is working. But sound is missing.
I've compiled snd_bt87x as module and it's got loaded. I've configured two sound cards in /etc/modules.d/alsa.
Alsamixer knows the card and I have a "capture" that I can unmute but that's about all I can do. No sound in tv.
Code: | cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xefff4000 irq 21
1 [Bt878 ]: Bt87x - Brooktree Bt878
Brooktree Bt878 at 0xefdfe000, irq 17

Sound is working fine but when I do alsamixer -c 0 what I miss there is an option for "line in". That little cable is connected correctly and sound is working on winxp ( ) but not on my gentoo system.
There is another specialty on this system. It's got a nforce680i chipset and two forcedeth nics with marvell phy. I had difficulties getting that to work. Configuring net.eth0 was easy but getting into the net only worked after giving the kernel a pci=nomsi command on boot. Setting "options forcedeth msi=0 and msix=0" in /etc/modprobe.conf worked as well until the next reboot when the system threw out this line in the modprobe.conf. So I had to give the kernel above command.
Does pci=nomsi take effect on the sound card (hda-intel) as well or is it a problem of alsa and hda-intel?
Does anyone have any idea how to further troubleshoot this?
Greetings
Lioba

Another question:
how do I name the card in /etc/make.conf? This here may be wrong.
Code: | ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel bt87x" |

I'm slowly going nuts. After reading /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/oss/btaudio I realized that I neither need bt87x nor btaudio for sound to work with my Wintv . Only the cable plugged into line in of my audio card. I know it's plugged in correctly. So wtf is missing? Is there anyone who has the same hardware or similar?
Chipset is nforce 680i MCP55 on an asus p5n32-e sli with onboard soundcard hda-intel
Please anyone?

Right. I will suggest but it may or may not help.
First are you alsa drivers built into the kernel or are they installed drivers,
because there have been some changes in 2.6.20 sound doesn't work so i used the drivers.
The best way to set it up is alsaconf which do the make.conf stuff anyways.
I do have hda-intel but i would say setup alsa again.
Wait... I jsut remembered. In alsamixer I think you have to setup (switch mute to unmute) so you can get sound from line in,mic and other bits, so its probably like that. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.

Thanks Robstar - I thought I was alone in the world.
hda-intel is working. Setting it up was easy and listening to music isn't the problem.
My prob is sound with tv. I have a Hauppauge Wintv - analog - and the cable from tv card output into sound card line in.
All options in alsamixer are turned up.
Well, I think I should leave it at that.

Sorry for this late reply,
I apoligize about the kernel as that was an error on my behalf and now is fixed.
what you should do is go into alsamixer and change the sound inputs to line in. then press tab and then put both caption bars to full and then it should work. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.

Thank you, but there is only line, no line in and how do I change anything there? Sounds silly, I know. |

to mute and unmute you press m so when its [00] it's unmutes and [MM] is muted,
left arrow, right arrow to move about,
up and down to change the voloume (but some don'e always have bars, don't ask me why)
tab gives different views,
when you open alsamixer you get sound and input,
press tab = you get caption (make these bars full and unmuter if needed)
press tab again = you see the whole lot in one window. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.

I didn't know about TAB. Will try and see whether it helps. |

Just to make sure of things, you put both caption bars to full and set input to the right input? _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.
