Feels good doesn't it? Unlike installing windows, installing a real OS (like Linux) is an accomplishment to be proud of, especially if you have never done it before.

Congratulations! I hope your future experiences will be equally pleasant and rewarding.

Hmm, not to discredit (I understand your point), but I, respectfully, disagree with your assumption that a complicated install process makes one operating system better than another. The idea "A real OS is better because its installation is monolithic enough to feel like an accomplishment" doesn't hold merit for me. Certainly there are many powerful and decent operating systems that have opted for a simple install.

Actually, I don't disagree with your statement above. I don't think a complex install makes a good OS. Heck, RedHat and WinXP make it so easy all you really have to know is how to find the 'Next' button. I slant windows only becasue it makes my life more difficult. I don't really think it is 100% without mertt. Yet, I, personally anyway, feel like I learned something during my first install that I could not have learned whilst installing WinXP.

For me, the Linux experience has been like a thousand little discoveries that, after I survived all of them :), made me very confident in the system's structure and ability. Installing is the first step down a longer path of learning that makes one an effective user of Linux.

Of course, I do have an open PostGreSQL thread at the moment . Ah well, nobody's perfect (especially not myself). :)
