Hello,
Whenever I am burning a DVD with gnomebaker, or unraring an image, the system is lagging.. I do not think this is a hardware problem, since it works perfectly on windows..
I have Dual Core Intel processor. 1gb of RAM..
any ideas ?
Thank you |

Try building your kernel with Low Latency Desktop mode and CFQ as your default I/O scheduler. Also, make sure that DMA is activated on your hard drives. hdparm /dev/sda _________________ Viper-Sources Maintainer || nesl247 Projects || vipernicus.org blog |

Quote: | Timing buffered disk reads: 134 MB in 3.03 seconds = 44.24 MB/sec | You have an sata drive,- dma is turned on by default on sata drives (and hdparm does not work on sata drives). If you didn't have dma on, you would be getting ~14MB/s transfer rate instead of above. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

Ok, cool, and ppurka is right, you should be good to go now.
Alot of people believe that the -ck kernel patchset (or -ck based patchsets) can really help with problems like this as well. _________________ Viper-Sources Maintainer || nesl247 Projects || vipernicus.org blog |
