I have a strange situation on a freshly installed server where I want to install Open-Xchange. The ebuild uses java-config -g CATALINA_HOME to find out where tomcat is installed. This command always returns:
Undefined: CATALINA_HOME
On another server which I have set up some time ago this command indeed returns /usr/share/tomcat-5
The environment variable $CATALINA_HOME is set and contains /usr/share/tomcat-5
Does someone know how I can make the java-config command return the correct value? (I already did a complete emerge -e world)
In the meantime I edited the ebuild to be able to install the beast but it would be nice if the system was consistent with the ebuild requirements.

That package likely needs to be updated. That variable is only set for Tomcat via /etc/conf.d/tomcat-* invoked before init script is run. So it's never globally available as would need to be for java-config -g. I will see about getting in touch with dev working on ox and see if we can't come up with a better solution. Unless this has been resolved already.
