PostPosted: Fri Mar 23, 2007 8:56 am    Post subject: mozilla browsers configure error Reply with quote

A week ago I wanted to upgrade my mozilla-firefox. I thought it would be a good idea to emerge mozilla-firefox-bin, rather than compile firefox from source code. So, I unmerged mozilla-firefox and emerged mozilla-firefox-bin. Then I proceeded to update other apps with "emerge world". Among other things, it wanted to re-emerge mozilla-firefox. It seems to be a dependency for some programs I have. Yelp (help for Gnome), for example, needs it. I said to myself 'OK, if it needs to be here, so be it' and proceeded to emerge mozilla-firefox. Emerge failed during the autoconfiguration part:

Code:

Adding configure options from ./.mozconfig:
  --enable-application=suite
  --enable-optimize=-O2
  --disable-installer
  --disable-pedantic
  --enable-crypto
  --with-system-jpeg
  --with-system-png
  --with-system-zlib
  --disable-updater
  --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2
  --enable-pango
  --enable-svg
  --enable-svg-renderer=cairo
  --enable-system-cairo
  --disable-strip
  --disable-strip-libs
  --enable-ipv6
  --enable-xinerama
  --disable-xprint
  --disable-freetype2
  --disable-debug
  --disable-tests
  --enable-reorder
  --enable-elf-dynstr-gc
  --enable-canvas
  --with-system-nspr
  --with-system-nss
  --enable-oji
  --enable-mathml
  --enable-jsd
  --enable-xpctools
  --enable-ldap
  --enable-ldap-experimental
  --with-default-mozilla-five-home=/usr/lib/seamonkey
  --with-user-appdir=.mozilla
  --enable-extensions=default,venkman
configure: error: application: invalid feature name

So I skipped firefox and emerged everything else that needed an update (with commands "emerge world" and "emerge --resume --skipfirst"). I unmerged mozilla-firefox-bin and tried to emerge mozilla-firefox, but with no luck. Then I read somewhere that for Yelp to get its required files, it should be enough if I emerged seamonkey. Failed that, too. Here is the whole thing:

Code:

localhost rasmus # emerge -av seamonkey

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N    ] www-client/seamonkey-1.1.1  USE="crypt gnome ipv6 java ldap xinerama -debug -mozdevelop -moznocompose -moznoirc -moznomail -moznopango -moznoroaming -postgres -xforms -xprint" 34,697 kB

Total: 1 package (1 new), Size of downloads: 34,697 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] yes

If you wonder why I have mozdevelop USE flag enabled, I was just trying to follow the advice of http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/browse_thread/thread/7c1a9c0886d98070/6791b68e3a829ceb. It didn't make any difference, emerge failed with and without the flag.

Maybe someone wants to see the output of "emerge --info":

As you might have noticed, I have set the firefox, mozilla and nsplugin use flags. Could the problem lie here? I want to use firefox and its plugins (for flash and embedded videos and java). Because of that, some other programs don't emerge. VideoLAN (VLC media player) for example wants firefox because of the nsplugin flag, I guess.

I also tried to run "revdep-rebuild". It found dependency problems and tried to fix them by downloading a bunch of stuff, starting with... mozilla-firefox of course!

I am posting this from mozilla-firefox-bin, because Epiphany is not starting anymore. When trying to re-emerge Epiphany web browser, it wants to pull in Firefox, too!

I ran configure manually just to see, which options cause it to throw errors. Commenting out some lines in .mozconfig, I found out that only very few options do not cause configure to produce errors.
