I started with Gento stage 4 Gentoo PPC arch. (didnt have a DVD burner to try YDL 5.0)
Then I tried yellowdog. QUICKFORMAT (I figured out how to install it using My windows machine as an NFS server, so no DVD needed!!!!)

Now I am back to Gentoo already. (YDL blows. *smile*)

I installed the stage4 tarbell and went with Gentoo PPC64 arch for my PS3.

I emerged Xfce4 and it shows up under ' ls etc/X11/SESSIONS '

if I have XSESSION="fluxbox" in my rc.conf file I boot to XTERM.

if I put XSESSION="Xfce4" in rc.conf I boot to Session BOX with default or failsafe as my only options.

anyone know how I might fix it?

you need a login manager. if you are using xdm then the XSESSION variable in /etc/conf.d/xdm is being used, when there is no .xession in the users home directory IIRC.

you might want to use gdm oder kdm so you can select the desktop environment you want to use.

also you could write "startxfce4" into the .xinitrc file in you home directory and then run the command startx.

hope this helps a bit.
