Thanks, that is an interesting pointer.
I had been thinking about something along these lines a few dasy ago, but did not dare trying, because I was afraid about the consequences re-emerging things may have, when in presence of unsafe symbolic links.
Could it be that some packages would be linked against the wrong thing and then behave wrong later on, even though the symbolic link is removed right after the emerge ? I am no specialist in package build, so I cannot really make an assumption it will work. That is why I eventually decided to do emerge --emptytree (with symoblic link removed, of course). If I am wrong, I would love to learn it. |

Hi guys,
The upgrade to 2.18 went quite well for me but I still have some issues:
- the gentoo-cow gdm theme disappeared... can I get it back ?
- totem won't play wmv videos, even after emerging gst-plugins-pitfdll
- looks like gnome-power-manager keeps wanting to turn on the keyboard backlight of my MBP when it starts
Any solutions for these ? |

Yea, my esound wasnt working neither, but I had to recompile with the USE="esd" then started my /etc/init.d/esound start and it works. Just and FYI for anyone. _________________ AMD 64 X2 4400+ on ECS nForce4

Well I added the gnome-overlay again and after installing/upgrading 65 packages gnome is up and running
It was even smoother then upgrading to 2.18.0 (no blocking packages and stuff).

I guess I'll try GNOME 2.20 because my automount feature seems to be broken , I can't mount my usb stick and the system doesn't detect blank cds...
Let's see if this version corrects this issues... _________________ AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition

Hey, The following things are my opinion. Don*t start a flamewar now, thank you.
The gnome meta package has too many programs, which shouldn*t be included: ekiga => no one of my friends has it; gnome-screensaver => xscreensaver works fine, I have unmerged gnome-screensaver and I have a screensaver! I don*t like tomboy.
Thats the reason why I usually use gnome-light.
Now I will try the gnome-overlay. _________________ ln -s /usr/lib64/libcurl.so.4 /usr/lib64/libcurl.so.3 |

Yes, I've tried everything, including updating my GNOME, but nothing (with the one in the overlay). It worked well before _________________ AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition

My expat is at 2.0.1. I've tried various things already listed in this forum, to no avail:
1. emerge -1 gettext XML-Parser
2. revdep-rebuild -Xv
3. downgrading expat to pre-2.0.1
Any ideas? |
