| I've added gnome-experimental to layman, but I can't seem to emerge the latest gnome.. Is there anything special you have to do? Some packages come up to 2.18.0.1, others 2.17.0 and all the rest 2.16.2 |

I 've had a bit of a look at the overlays but there doesn't seem to be a gnome ebuild that coordinates the rebuilding to 2.18 stage. All the component ebuilds are there just not the overall one.
Because with portage including the 2.18 ebuilds it fails when trying to emerge -auvDN world |

Must be that time of year ago...
Another gnome, yay.
Also, ebuilds appear to be in the gnome overlay (but I haven't tested them).
So if you want gnome that badly, now you know where to get it... _________________ -PhaseBurn |

No clue if you know this, but NetworkManager is in portage, hard masked though:

I have been upgrading like crazy on the last couple of days using the overlay.
For some reason I cants still log into my gnome desktop.. Like some package is missing.
I am not complaining as I am aware I am using a ~ ebuilds but I was wondering What I can check to see whats wrong?
Basically after a successful login I get my wallpaper the splash screen appear and I hear the startup sound.
But nothing else..
If I try from different WM to run a gnome app such as epiphany it get stuck while loading and I have to kill the process's.
Appreciate any suggestions.

| Can't even build gnome2.18 from the overlay as control-center blocks libgnomekbd and both are needed. No go atm. |

I don't have any problems, there were bugs though with collision-protect (control-center ebuild should have --disable-update-mimedb ) and hal had some problems, I think.
The second problem was that gnome have again screwed something with the session data and the session hung on the first start, after that I just deleted the old session and it started just ok. _________________ "I knew when an angel whispered into my ear,

@Gergan - you got evolution 2.9.92 to emerge as well? I get this
| Code: | checking for GTKHTML... configure: error: Package requirements (libgtkhtml-3.14) were not met:
No package 'libgtkhtml-3.14' found |
The suggested workaround is to adjust PKG_CONFIG_PATH, but I guess I'll just wait for gtkhtml-3.14 to make it into the overlay (@ 3.13.92 right now) _________________ I tried installing Suse Linux off the Internet. It got stuck in the middle somewhere.Installing off the Internet is for the birds. |

Odd. My libgnomekbd ebuild says
| Code: | RDEPEND="dev-libs/dbus-glib
>=sys-apps/dbus-0.92
>=gnome-base/gconf-2.14
>=x11-libs/gtk+-2.10.3
>=gnome-base/libglade-2.6
>=gnome-base/libgnome-2.16
>=gnome-base/libgnomeui-2.16
>=x11-libs/libxklavier-3
!<gnome-base/control-center-2.17.0"
DEPEND="${RDEPEND}
>=sys-devel/autoconf-2.59
=sys-devel/automake-1.8*
dev-util/intltool
dev-util/pkgconfig"
|
So that's a block against <control-center-2.17.0... |

so unmerge control-center and build it after that, it could be problem only if you have older version of control-center installed _________________ "I knew when an angel whispered into my ear,

| back to 3d effects, if I compile metacity with the option enable-compositor I just see a blue screen and the panel in a little brighter blue. I have got a nvidia GF7300GS with the newest drivers installed. glxinfo says that GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is supported. Any clues why it doesn't work? |

It's a bug in libcm, I get the same error. I've been looking over the source for the last couple of hours, but haven't gotten anywhere. Last activity on libcm was weeks and even months ago, so don't expect it to work anytime soon.
Cheers,

Ok so here is what I found.
I was also running gnome since the pre - beta. 2.17.92
I was able to start gnome as root and as a new test user I created.
So this lead me to believe I have a problem with my user settings.
So I deleted any gnome or .gnome related file/directory under my home dir.
Restarted gdm and tried to start gnome.
Nada...
Still unable to start gnome as my own user.
I am not sure where to look (Which logs?)
Appreciate any help.

Is anyone here experiencing a problem with evolution-data-server-1.10 not exiting when logging out after evolution is setup? I'm having a problem with it not exiting and it keeps the drive-mount applet from displaying when logging back in. If evolution isn't setup you won't experience the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Everything else is working well for me right now. _________________

I must admit I'm impressed. Gnome 2.18 working almost flawlessly here. Minor quirks with gnome-terminal, but nothing major. 2 Thumbs up for gnome-experimental overlay devs _________________ emerge -C signature |
