I have installed a new computer (AMD64)

I have installed a new computer (AMD64) and got sound nicely working (alsa). Amarok went OK. This morning, I installed vlc and did a few other updates and now I have no sound anymore (nor in vlc nor in amarok).

Sound is not muted.
Amarok gives the message "xine was unable to initialize any alsa drivers" (HD-Intel driver is included in kernel).

I do not even have an idea anymore where to look. All suggestions (also for more information) are welcome.

Thanks in advance when helping (without sound, the system is loosing its attraction to me)

[SOLVED] "Front" in Alsamixer was muted. I checked Master and PCM but not this one
