HELP! All media stops playing after 2 seconds

Hey, first the problem started with dvd's & ogle, I could start them, see 2 seconds and then it would stop, the image freezes, I could still forward though, but it wouldn't play. And now all of a sudden I have the same problem with mplayer! I can see the whole movie when I forward, but play does nothing, just freezes the image.

so a bit more precise would be a help? do you have changed something important since ...? emerged a new kernel?
for mplayer -> do you have rtc,mtrr and a defined cache size? it improves a lot the performance (without rtc i even can hang my box trying to watch a dvd)

That's just it, I didn't change anything, it used to work perfectly. I emerged dvd::rip and xine. I don't know what rtc, mtrr is, so maybe that is the problem, but it used to work, so... It's not only with dvd's, it's with every movie file.
