Sometimes when I record programs with MythTV it crashes my backend. Completely locks it up and I have to hard reboot in order to get control of my system again. I can usually watch TV with tvtime just fine, but randomly, myth crashes when it starts recording something. Here is the screen I come back to when it happens:

I can't scroll up and see more of the error, since the system locks up. And I can't seem to find any errors in the log. Since the last time, I've enabled logging for every function of mythtv, to see if it spits something out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hard lockups are almost always the sign of a hardware or driver issue- myth is a user-land program, so it shouldn't be able to lock things up completely.

I'm clueless about the error message though, although I see some references to some ATA things in there... Myth can be resourse intensive and bring hardware issues out in the open. Your kernel messages logs from before the lockup may be some help too.

The top line there is a listing of loaded modules. I've gotten it to crash more while recording, each time it gives a different call trace. Enabling logging for everything in myth didn't seem to leave any clue to the error. The final message before the freeze was notification that it was starting to record. I'll post my kernel log later and see if anything in there turns up with something helpful.

If your backend a seperate computer from your frontend? The tulip driver for your ethernet card looks suspicious.

Yes, backend and frontend are separate. I noticed that I've been getting those errors with the network, and was thinking about replacing the card. Don't see how much that would have to do with it crashing, though.

I tried recompiling the kernel without any ACPI or CPU frequency scaling in it, and I got one recording without a crash. I'll schedule a few more later to see if it's consistent.
