if i mount either the iso image or the burned cd itself, all I see is this:
Code: | [root@homer pts/0] mount /mnt/cdrom/
/home/simon/downloads/isos
[root@homer pts/0] ls -l /mnt/cdrom/
total 503567
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2048 May 8 01:10 isolinux
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 515649758 May 13 13:08 livecd.cloop
|
inside the isolinux directory is this:
Code: | [root@homer pts/0] ls -l /mnt/cdrom/isolinux/
total 8175
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 2048 May 13 13:08 boot.cat
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 129 May 13 13:08 boot.msg

if i try to mount the livecd.cloop file, it says that i must specify the filesystem type. I am assuming that the armyops directory is loced in this file. any suggestions? |

Check out this thread, you need some knoppix tools to mount the cloop file:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=191705#191705
I just booted with the livecd and scp'ed the /opt/armyops170 directory to another machine. |

Now please seed the torrent - it's no good if nobody is seeding - I'm at 95% and I'm uploading like a madman, but I'm no good as a seed without those final 5% so please seed this for a few hours if you can. |

That way it's sitting there with all my other games and it should make a home directory for your settings and stuff per user...I haven't seen the disk layout yet (maybe late tonight) but from the sounds of it this should work just fine (That's how I installed Aliens vs Predator at least )
I just like to keep things in a standard format |

I think you must write a shell-script that cds to the aarmy dir.
At least on my box it only runs if you start the executable from /opt/armyops170/System. _________________ linux user 65882

again with the /usr/ stuff - Portage has always placed binary only games in /opt - just goes to show that the fs structure is unlogical. |

Still haven't found the logic of some things...
Why on earth is mozilla installed in /usr/lib/mozilla
The difference between /var and /opt seems also very vague to me. So I just install everything in /var and ignore /opt and be happy _________________ Pentium 4 Prescott 3,2 GHz

I'm seeding now, so join in - I managend to get the last 5% of the server, I'll be seeding all night - tomorrow morning I'll have to adjust the upload rate so the other people in my home can use the internet however. So get some big pipes on this --- I wonder why this file wasn't released on bittorrent in the first place - that way the slashdotting wouldn't have been so bad. |

I downloaded the ISO and popped it into the computer. The boot is beatiful, so is X, the sound in the game menu works well, but when I try to get to the actual engine, it just keeps doing nothing, even though the CD drive is working it's ass off. I aborted it after about 10 minutes (this is a Windows box, but it's only a few months old).
So is something wrong or should I just let it run some more? |

Please seed the torrents when you download. To seed, simply leave the bit torrent window open when the download finishes. The more seeds the faster this thing can be distributed, so PLEASE help out by leaving your download window open after the "finish" button appears. Bit torrent is a great technology, but needs lots of seeds on files of this size. When only 2 or 3 people are seeding and 100+ people are downloading, it makes the completion process take a LOT LONGER. So please, please help out.
Thanks,
Zak |

The really cool thing would be to have all the mirror sites run bittorrent, because the would really increase the overall bandwidth, and as you help with the spreading while you download we would actually get faster the most people download (in theory - leechers close their torrents as soon as they finish instead of leaving it open over night, or just a few hours) - thus a slashdotting wouldn't hurt as bad. |

The version of America's army at the cd is just the beta? Or is the program supposed to shutdown as fast as you get killed?
Besides, just copying the folder didn't work for me. I get
Code: |
Assertion failed: InPos<=Size [File:../../Core/Inc/FFileManagerLinux.h] [Line: 89]
History:
Exiting due to error
|
when I try to run armyops-bin after placing the folder in /opt. |

Here's a question for you about bittorrent. After my download is completed, and I close the window (for example to reboot and try the game), but want to later on reopen it, so others could download it from me, how do I do this? I.e., how do I restart the bittorrent window for a particular download after I close it? |

Ok, if you want to stop it and start seeding later, this is what you do.
1) Simply follow the torrent link again, and open the torrent.
2) When the bt save as box pops up, navigate to the directory with the file and click on the file.
3) After selecting the file click save.
Bit Torrent will do a check on the file to make sure the checksums match, and after verifying that it is in fact the exact same file, it will recognize the file is complete, and start uploading.
This same method may be used to resume a torrent, in case you don't have time to finish a file and need to do something else, or need the extra bandwidth.
That's it!

My system is a Tbird 1.3GHz with a GeForce3 Ti200 card... the CD boots (pretty splash screen!) but goes black soon after the "logging in as root..." message. I'm assuming it's trying to start X automatically. The usual ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't work, so I have to hit the hard reboot button.
Does anyone have any helpful hints, or better yet, how do I mount the livecd.cloop file so I can just copy the game to my HD? _________________ $umount /mnt/brain

I've extracted the AAOR directory from the cloop archive, and want to set up a dedicated server.
I've followed the instructions on the AA website, howevere it doesn't seem to want to start up a server. It crashes when trying to open an Xwindow.
I'm using this to start the game: Code: | $ armyops-bin global Mountain_Ambush.aao?AGP_Gameplay.AGP_GameTeamObjective
|
and as far as I can tell, should be the only thing required.
Can somebody let me know if they've been able to run a dedserver? |
