I'm installing Gentoo off of the 2006.1 Live CD, and I can't seem to find *anywhere* exactly what I'm supposed to put down for the url if I select gentoo-sources. Can anyone please give me a working url I can use? Everything else in the installer is easy to understand.

I do not use the graphical installer, and have heard some bad things about it breaking. Here is the link to the Handbook, make sure you look at the parts for installing portage and choosing mirrors. After the base system and portage are installed it is just a matter of emerging the desired sources from the mirror you chose.

If you are unsure with the command line, see my signature with a link to visual tutorials that follows most of the installation section of this doc. And of course ask your questions here, this forum is very helpful. :)

So far, so good... I'm using your flash tutorials and they are incredibly helpful. :D I'm currently waiting on the final and longest part of the process, genkernel -all. *crosses fingers*

Well, that's done, and I emerged coldplug, but your tutorial seems to be blank for a few frames and I don't know what to do... there appear to be 5 or 6 blank frames that start to occur halfway through the coldplug emerge log.

Edit: Well, I'll figure out which modules need loading later...

Coldplug is not needed with the latest udev, that functionality is in udev itself now. Glad to hear the tutorials helped. :)

Well, I got everything up and running for the most part, should I unmerge coldplug since it's not needed?

The only other things that I'm working on are sound, reading ntfs drives, and adding scrollwheel support for the mouse.

Edit: Everything's solved for now, just figuring out which apps to install.
