Oh lucky day! I just inherited the company's old windows domain controller. w00t!
After I get it home, clean the ghost turds out of it (and windows server 2000), I'll start loading Gentoo. The box is a rack mount Compaq Prollieant (sp) with dual (yes 2!) 600 MHz Pentium II procs, 512 meg ram, DLT tape drive, and 4 9gig scsi drives in some sort of raid array.
I've looked over the compaq site about linux comaptability, and there's some noise about needing special drivers for Redhat v2 or 3. I haven't seen anything about a newer version or different distro.
Anyone loaded Gentoo on an old Compaq like this?
Cheers,

I don't remember the exact model, but it was a dual PII 400 or something model that I installed Gentoo on, also did it on an old Quad PIII XEON Compaq. They were both proliant's, and they both worked. Have fun! |

I had no major gotchas when I did it on either system. I think it took 4.5 weeks to run that. |
