Just to confirm it's sorted for me, memory usage down to 2% after 24 hours. Much better! 8)

Cheers,

Yes. It's much better here, too.

I still get a memory leak.

After 4 days , the x-process just consumed 500MiB memory.

xorg-x11 7.2 (7.3 isn't stable on amd64), xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r2

I have an ATI card (proprietary drivers, sadly - X1300).

I run KDE 3.5.7 (meta-ebuilds) without any gadgets, KStep window decoration.

media-libs/freetype-2.3.4-r2
(as by http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180987 )

Which additional information would be useful?

PS: Freedesktop-bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2590

I can confirm memory leaks. Using:

KDE 3.5.8
Fglrx driver 8.476
xorg-x11 7.2
xorg-server 1.3.0.0-r5

Memory grows steadily. It is not dramatic but after maybe 2 days (with hibernate cycles in between) it becomes unusable...

Also have this problem. X11 (7.2) uses 1GB memory after some hours usage.

I'm also getting a memory leak using xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6. X is currently using 1.2GB of my 2GB, and apps tend to freeze from time to time. Is this thread still going, or are people ignoring it because of the [solved] in the title?

why are you two versions behind the current xorg? Just curious. Have you tried newer versions?

The latest stable xorg-server is 1.3.0.0-r6, and people in the thread were suggesting that the leak was fixed earlier than this, so I haven't tried any newer xorg. I did do a well overdue emerge world today, so I'll report tomorrow if my memory goes out of control again. If it does, I'll try a newer xorg.

Alright, well, I've been on xorg-server-1.5.2 for a few weeks and X org still hogs all my memory. It's to the point where I have to restart X two or three times a day just to get anything done. I have 2GB of memory and 4GB of swap. Ugh, I'm tired. Don't know what to do.

Many a times, its the clients which make X leak memory. What GUI clients are u running? Use x11-misc/xrestop to find the culprit.

xrestop says that kdesktop is using the most memory, but it's only using about 81MB. There's only 23 clients total.
Today seems to be a good day though. X is only using 947MB of my main memory and 1177MB of swap.

Can I ressurrect this?

My X is eating memory like hell, 40% out of 4GB in something like 2 days and half.

Code:
x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.5-r1

I don't remember in which version it started. I'm using nvidia-drivers, but seems that its not related...

Upgrade to 1.7.3? X's use of memory seems stable now, at least in my setup.

Updated.

When I got about 13h of uptime it was about 1%. Now with 26h its 3.3%. Lets just hope its not just increasing slower than before =S

Anyway, I have had so much circular dependencies, blocks, and missing dependencies that I had to change my entire system to ~amd64 in order to update to xorg-server-1.7.3 :? :?

Yeah, now its with 1.3% of physical memory, so its not increasing. Thanks for the clue.

Seems like xorg-server-1.7.4 fixed memory leaks for me too, from 600 Mb it reduced to 40 Mb (total of 2Gb RAM) and not growing anymore.

Is it a known bug or just a nasty problem?
