Proposed system:

UltraSparc IIi, 333MHz
EIDE 9Gig HDD
Sun Video Plus PCI video capture card
Sun Creator 3D FFB2+ framebuffer

It's currently running Solaris 8, but I want to migrate to something more comfy. I've downloaded Gentoo Sparc ISO, gonna try it when I get home tonight. But before I dump my Solaris install, does anyone know whether Gentoo contains support for the framebuffer and video capture cards I listed above? Solaris supports the framebuffer right off the bat, but I can't seem to find the patches for the video capture, and Solaris is a bear to try and fetch packages with.

In short, I'd much rather chase my tail in Gentoo than in Solaris, but only if there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks.

Cole

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Gentoo on Sparc.

The framebuffer definitely works, as many people (including myself) have them on either that particular system or other Ultra workstations.

As for the video capture device, if it's a rebranded version of someone else's card/chipset, then there is a possibility it may work. If all of it is Sun specific, then chances are less that it'll work. The entry in the output of lspci (which you can run from the Install CD without impacting your Solaris install) may help provide a better answer here.

Thanks, Jason. I'll give that a try tonight. Just updated OpenBoot to 3.31 last night. I'll try lspci tonight. Also might try moving the video capture card to a different slot. It currently sits in PCI4, which is not in the pcib probe, only in the pcia.
