I can't get it to work and alsamixer only shows the master slider. I had the master slider and pcm slider but that was after I manually edited /etc/modules.d/alsa. I removed what I did. If someone has it working if they could look at my config files maybe they can lead me in the right direction. I tried the alsa-driver package and got errors loading the modules so I compiled a clean kernel and tried alsa in the kernel. The modules run fine and also alsaconf but still nothing. I was searching around and one guy said to add pci=nomsi but didn't help me.
uname
/etc/modules.d/alsa
/etc/modules.conf
lsmod

| are you using the kernel alsa? Then it doesn't work. I read somewhere, sorry no link, that the alsa-driver package has a working driver, I dont' know the difference in driver number or whatever but I heard it works better, assuming you are using snd-hda-intel. If you manage to get it to compile cleanly that is. It just doesn't work yet since the drivers are not terrible good for the mcp51 hd. |

That is the first thing I tried. I followed the alsa guide and nothing. I couldn't get alsaconf to run without errors inserting the modules. I must have recompiled this kernel (Linux laptop 2.6.18-gentoo-r6) over 10 times so I think my next attack will be to try the next kernel when it comes out and try the alsa packages from alsa's site, some say they got it to work. What would be nice is if one of the dev's got one of these laptops with this nVidia Corporation MCP51 on it and I bet they can get it to work.

| I have a hda-intel too, I only try to get it working once a few months ago, no luck. If it's not a laptop, I highly suggest saving yourself some trouble and buying a nice $30 emu10k1 (Audigy 2/4/Soundblaster Live, not the SE editions, etc) |

I have that exact card, works fine (no headphone jack working thought) with alsa modules, just follow the kernel guide but compile it has module.
I've posted my config here awhile ago, look for the dv9000z post. for headphones use alsa-driver. |

| I got mine working by using kernel 2.6.18-r3 instead of 2.6.17-r8 with intel-hd in the kernel. |
