I downloaded and unpacked stage3-amd64-2006.1.tar.bz2 but cannot execute any file from it. I get
Quote:
cannot execute binary file

for everything.
I have started up with kubuntu, because the 2006.1 doesn't work with my S-ATA.

You'll get this error if you're using an older kernel-headers package version. Make sure that your kernel running kubuntu is new enough (at LEAST greater than 2.6.17). After that, your gentoo chroot should run just fine.

Good luck!
