Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone here knows if there's an update to the x11-drivers/ati-drivers in the works
Right now xorg-server-1.12.0-r1 can't upgrade due the the version of the installed ati video drivers.
It's been stuck in limbo now for about a month. I've looked around, but couldn't find any information about it
(x11-base/xorg-server-1.12.0-r1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) conflicts with
<=x11-base/xorg-server-1.11.49[-minimal] required by (x11-drivers/ati-drivers-12.3::x11, installed)
Also the current drivers won't compile with sys-kernel/git-sources-3.4_rc2.
Thanks in advance _________________ Good luck

Ati used to release their drivers at the end of the month, so I'd expect 12.4 in about two weeks.
Still if there is anything that you critically need in the newest xorg-server or kernel, you can use open drivers. _________________ BTW, TWM FTW! |

gorkypl,
Thanks for that info
I don't remember having to wait that long for an update, but no critical needs here so we'll just wait it out. _________________ Good luck

Nope, not yet. I just tried and server 1.12 segfaults with fglrx 12.4.
Oh well. I should be used to this. _________________ ~amd64 13.0 // linux-3.9 // gcc-4.8 // glibc-2.17 // xorg-server-1.14 // dwm-6.0 |

Fran,
Thanks a lot for that timely information
When I saw that ati-drivers-12.4 was still blocking xorg-server I was going to modify the ebuild RDEPEND to the latest xorg to try it out. Now I don't have to.
I installed the radeon drivers in 3.4-rc4 and didn't really care for the results. I've also come to find that support is being dropped for Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000
The info can be found here
So I'm considering another graphics card (not ati) or just limping along with radeon
In any event I appreciate you posting your results _________________ Good luck
