Does anyone know how to convert m4a to mp3 with the id3 tag?
Mplayer/faad converts it to WAV without any issues, but the id tag is gone. Any ideas?

Pull audacious/audacious-plugins from SVN.
Install audacious.
In audacious-plugins, create a dir called "overlay" and drop this tarball inside it:
http://www.honeyplanet.jp/audacious/out_lame_d2.tgz
Run:
$ OVERLAYS="overlay" make
$ su
# OVERLAYS="overlay" make install
Start audacious.
Select "LAME encoder" as your output plugin.
Configure it.
Open your M4As up in Audacious, and let it transcode them, preserving the tags.
Go back to Audacious preferences, and reset ALSA as your output plugin.

Nice, however I have over 2000 files and I am looking for a terminal solution.

I should be able to knock something up in python, I'll see what tools are available to read m4a tags (and if I have any m4a files  ) if you are willing to wait a few days?
