I ran quake3 fine under Windows on this same laptop...but now without luck. It does have hardware openGL support. I also have GLX uncommented in my XF86Config.
I am not sure where to go from here, but I hope that you guys can point me in the right direction.
TIA |

Could you post a bit more of your hardware specs?
And did you try the setting "+set r_allowsoftwaregl 1"? (though I would not recommend it) _________________ linux user 65882 |

Sure. P4 2.4 Ghz, 512 MB Ram, Desknote system. Uses onboard video, etc. 64 Available MB Video Ram. I had no problem with hardware supported OpenGL previously.
I tried setting the above flag, with the expected results of software GL. Hideously slow. Not playable. I couldn't really even navigate the menu @ 1024 x 768.
Any ideas?

I dunno anything about a desknote system.
What kind of graphics chip is that onboard card?
Do you have accelerated X?
Start an xterm and have a look at the output of glxinfo and glxgears. _________________ linux user 65882 |

Type Code: | glxinfo | grep Direct | and see if Direct Rendering is on or off. I'd be willing to bet that it's off, in which case you need to do a bit of reading about DRI/DRM. There are plenty of threads on this forum about that subject, so I'd start with them. _________________ Dermot

Good call.
Here is my output from glxinfo.

As you can see direct rendering is off. I will look more into this. Thanks for your help. If you have any additional ideas, I'd be an eager audience for them. |
