If you do a big update you may emerge like 400 packages... not that crazy now with modular x and modular kde helping out... in fact if you really do an emerge -uD world ( after considering all the wisdom from those who are religiously against using that command) on a bells and whistles workstation, you could easily go well beyond 400, but for an arbitrary number, let's use 400 times 5 seconds for each auto-unmerge delay = 2,000 seconds of un-needed delay which comes to 33 minutes of time speant doing nothing. With a fast computer and parallel fetching, an emerge like this could be 8 hours or even well less, so this starts to get around 7 or 10% of the time spent just waiting. It's not like it's half the time, but near 10% for time spent doing nothing is kind of alot.
Anyone know a way to turn these delays off? |

Excerpt from man 1 make.conf: | CLEAN_DELAY = integer
Determines how long the countdown delay will be after running `emerge clean`.
Defaults to 5 seconds. |

I knew it must be somewhere. I think checked the example file... but not the man page.
Thank you. |
