Lately I've discovered a site which benchmarked free (as in freedom) drivers for Linux and was a bit surprised to see that they are using glxgears(!) for that which doesn't exactly deliver the most meaningful values for benchmarking. So I crawled the web for a bit and didn't find many useful synthetic 3D benchmarks for Linux.
SPECviewperf is a rather large benchmark which should result in quite accurate results as it tests many real-life situations like Maya scenes etc. Though it's a nice suite, 600 Megabytes is just too much for my taste.
What I'm looking for is a compact synthetic 3D benchmark for Linux which does not only test basic things like triangles per second but also possibly pixel and vertex shaders, texels per second etc. Is there anything like that? What do you use to compare the performance of graphic cards / drivers / kernel?

You could always emerge ut2004 and its benchmarking capabilities.
(Or another 3d game. I don't now if the demo version supports benchmarking, but you would think it would.)
