|
|
Hi everyone,
I'm new here so thanks in advance for all the help.
I got tired of the annoyingly slow Solaris on my Blade 100 and decided to try something else.
First, I successfully got a FreeBSD system up and running after a day or so, just to check system speed, and boy I liked it.
So I figured a Gentoo would be even nicer being used to Linux more than FreeBSD.
I got the 2006.1 release, followed the handbook and everything and got to the point where I emerge the kernel sources.
Should I emerge the sparc-sources (2.4.33.3) or the vanilla-sources (2.6.1x)?
Could anyone give a link to their kernel config for Blade 100?
Thanks. _________________ Blade 100 2.6.17r8

I've been using 2.6 on a Blade 100 successfully for some time now. I'm currently using sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.18-r2 on my Blade 100. You can get the kernel config that I'm using for it here. Be warned that I normally have a lot of options enabled for testing purposes so it may take a while to build. |

Thanks for the tip.
I will go with gentoo sources then and will try configuring the kernel as you did but with less options.
Thanks again. |

Hi Weeve,
I got gentoo-sources as you suggested and I just finished configuring the kernel.
I'd appreciate it if you could have a look at my .config before I build the kernel.
Also here are some outputs of lsmod, lspci and dmesg from the livecd system.
Will wait for your input.
Anyone feel free to comment please.
Thanks. |

I went through with the kernel build using the config posted previously and it was all successful.
Now, I am emerging xorg and kde which has been going on for a little over 2 days now but seems all fine, except that emerge gtk stopped to complain about cairo not being emerged with pdf flag on.
Anyway, it's still building and installing, so I'll update this post with my xorg.conf once I have X running. _________________ Blade 100 2.6.17r8
