When updating to Avidemux-2.0.42-r1, I get:

Code:

I already tried to downgrade, but it's a no go. The problem is that I have some breakages, so I ran revdep-rebuild and this is one (of several) things that needed to be recompiled. Unfortunately, I can't get it to run and downgrading it doesn't work, as portage will then complain that it needs this version.

Haven't even heard of it before. I'll have to check it out when I get the chance.

The avidemux version in portage is ancient. You should use 2.3_pre2-r2 from the berkano overlay, after unmasking x264-svn-20061014.

The berkano overlay fixed the problem. Thanks! Here's the link, for anyone who's interested.

The thread for the berkano overlay is here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-508174.html - it includes instructions on how to add it to layman. I'm happy you find it useful.
