I am having problems with realplayer playing back streams about 2X too fast. I have googled for solutions and have found no solution so far. Let me know what kind of data, system specs etc you may require. I am on a 64 bit system. Mplayerplug-in only gives me sound - but that is a separate problem so I'm resorting to realplayer which is fine for now since it does work but plays way too fast. I have adjusted all possible settings under preferences but to no effect. I have tried the realplayer ebuild as well as the binary package from realplayer linux.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

hmm, i simply use mplayer playing real streams. i dont even have realplayer installed here
you could unmask latest ffmpeg2, and mplayer does fine *with* realmedia and wmv |

have you verified that the stream that you want to play is okay?
maybe on a different system? (windows, mac...)
does your realplayer have problems with all streams or just with the one you are trying the whole time? |

Yes, RealPlayer is not my player of choice. I've gone through the Gentoo Wiki on playing video streams in detail and still mplayer (recent version) will only play the audio. I also tried all the stream examples on that page. I guess that's a separate topic - I will forward you the printout I get when playing a stream.
Realplayer plays too fast on everything.

I had a similar problem with realplayer, and also with skype on my AMD64.
See also https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-516044-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-realplayer+fast.html
Sound in realplayer and skype was way too fast,
but on the other side in skype my own voice was transmitted way too slow.
Everything else (Amarok, Noatune, Mplayer (with mpeg) , etc) was working fine.
Not sure how I solved the problem, but
after changing from kernel 2.6.17 with ALSA in the kernel to
2.6.18 with ALSA as modules everything works now.
I followed http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ALSA_Complete_(includes_dmix)
I also realized that I first missed to set the kernel support for:
Character devices --->
<*> Enhanced Real Time Clock Support
Perhaps this might help you. |

Well I just looked into my kernel ( 2.6.18 ) and found that I had already marked it!
Unfortunately RealPlayer is still playing too fast
Maybe you marked sth else?

I just updated to the recent kernel, and reinstalled ALSA as modules
following the installation guides.
Afterwards everything worked.
Not sure why... |

Well I "solved" the issue accidentally, by replacing my Wireless connection
(USB - with "legendary" module zd1211rw about which I need to forget, fortunately )
by Access Point (TP-Link) and cable RJ-45 - the success, by a stroke of luck,
appeard to be just a side effect of that change.
I was out of blue when I heard BBC playing smoothly in my Amarok!
Sounds silly, doesn't it? Anyway, it works in my case.
I didn't change anything in my beauty Gentoo configuration! |
