|
|
Ok I have been wokring on this for a while now. I am setting up a mail server. and I tried to use Hula. but get the following error after running hulasetup
Quote: | failed to load the MDB driver
hulasetup Exiting |
so after trying all sorts of things I am out of luck
I was looking for an IMAP mailserver with WebMail. Prefereably something easy to setup and maintain.
Are there any other options? does anyone have any hints on how to fix hula??
Thanks in advance ToyMakerII _________________ -- |

Do not know about Hula, but google said your are not the only one who has issue with Hula and Gentoo.
I also saw one post on it saying it failed with --domain=test.com but worked zith --domain=localhost
Maybe check with strace if it is looking for something that is not there ... _________________ "Because two groups of consumers drive the absolute high end of home computing: the gamers and the porn surfers." /.

I've gotten one of the previous beta-Hula builds to work.
that being said, it is important to note that the Hula project has been official cancelled by Novell.
I've been using RoundCube Mail for awhile now, AJAX(ish) interaction... php on apache based. |

I had tried roundcube too, but i find that good old Squirrelmail does the job nicely. _________________ "Because two groups of consumers drive the absolute high end of home computing: the gamers and the porn surfers." /.

Well I think UHla is out I have tried several builds all with no joy.
So, My first question is how do I make sure I get rid of Everything from HULA?
And Second what is a good (free) alternative that supports IMAP, webmail and two domains??
I'll look into round cube but for now I have to run to class for a while.
Also, something that is not TOO extream to setup/maintain Postfix looks powerfull but HARD!
Thanks again _________________ -- |

Postfix + Dovecot + whatever webmail (roundcube, squirrel, etc ..)
Do not look for all-in-one solution, Postfix is NOT hard, in fact it can be setup in a few minutes once you know what you have to do. You just need to read a bit (but you are already used to with gentoo), and then it is done. Plus, it is prette standard so it won't be lost time.
You can also install Webmin to help you configure stuff, we use it at work to manage virtual domain with postfix.
You can also look into Horde, but it is not that easy to setup too ... i tried once and i remember there was tons of menu/options ..
PS: obviously, most webmail run through IMAP which can also be used by Email clients. But i recommend POP as it is more supported (outlook have buggy IMAP support) and most users are used to it.
If you need support you can ask me i setup those things quite often (but on Mandriva servers) _________________ "Because two groups of consumers drive the absolute high end of home computing: the gamers and the porn surfers." /.

this is exactly the stack I use. dovecot is a godsend for IMAP functionality exposed for webmail clients and postfix is a very nice SMTP daemon. |

I typically set up mail servers with Postfix and Cyrus-imap (even internally). Webmail can be added via those apps mentioned previously (roundcube, squirrel, etc ..).
I've been curious about Dovecot but Cyrus seems to be the most time tested, the most used on really big sites (fastmail), and probably still holds the performance crown. I had used Courier in the past and moving to Cyrus was a big improvement.

I have heard of Issues with IMAP howver the main goal of this is to HAVE IMAP (the ability to edit documents and have instant sync on all clients, ie.e if I read it on my laptop at school, when I get home it will be marked at read, or in the sent box whatever)
PostFix sounds like the concensus
How do Spamassin and such fit into the puzzel?
Will it be atleast flaming obvious hwo to go about setting that up. Everytime I do another thing there are less and less Manuals to read and extrapolate from. _________________ -- |

Well it is recommended to wait to have everything configured and running before thinking about Spam/Virus, but yes, give it a try. _________________ "Because two groups of consumers drive the absolute high end of home computing: the gamers and the porn surfers." /.

depends how you installed them, if you manually make installed something, check if there is an uninstall, else you can still chek where the make insall put the files and remove them.
for packages that are in portage, you can just remove their config files in /etc/ and reemerge the packaege for a fresh start _________________ "Because two groups of consumers drive the absolute high end of home computing: the gamers and the porn surfers." /.
