I've emerged xorg-x11 and can't get Xorg -configure to work, here's the ouptut from Xorg.0.log

would be nice, if you could post

emerge --info

i think you use the close source ati - drivers;

maybe try the open source drivers, which graphic card from ati, model, name

post /etc/X11/xorg.conf


heres my working conf: for a ATI X700 Card, Notebook, 60 Hz, 1280x800 Resolution, 60 Hz Vertical Frequency, Ps2 (Touchpad) Mouse

you need to emerge -uavDN xorg-x11 and see if it pulls anything in.

I'm experiencing this same error. I'm guessing that it doesn't liek the fglrx_drv.so module or something. Were you ever able to solve this?

I decided to try this again, nearly a year later and the ati-drivers still bomb Xorg -configure. Same basic traceback as earlier. I figured I'd just mention it...

The best solution I have came up with is the emerge -C ati-drivers and run Xorg -configure. After this you can emerge ati-drivers and then manually edit your xorg.conf to use the new driver.
