I'm trying to install on this box. I've downloaded the Boot CD for Sparc64 and it boots fine until i choose the kernel 2616 or 2617. It starts to boot the choosen kernel and then gets an Illigal Insruction and boots me back to an OK prompt. Any ideas here?

stamperb,

That means the CPU has been fed an instruction is doesn't understand.

What CPU do you have ?
You need at least an UltraSparc IIi

stamperb,

#gentoo-sparc is a the channel dedicated to discussing gentoo on sun sparc systems on the freenode Internet Relay Chat (IRC) service. There are a lot of gentoo channels there.

Find an internet relay chat client, connect to irc.freenote.net, then join #gentoo-sparc.
You may as well join #gentoo-uk to practice irc too, since you are new to it.

Its instant message help

I think at this point i'll just call this a failed attempt. I have a feeling anything that needs that much work to even get started I might as well just use different hardware. had this laying around so i figured i'd try it.

Or you could search the forum, I don't think you'd have to look to hard to find other topics about this problem ;)
