goot morning everyone :)

i have to do a dissertation about linux defining differences between linux, windows and some realtime os like vxworks.
So i googled around and found very good informations about scheduling.
another part which would be important, would be memory management - but i cant find anything suiteable.

do you have some links for me, or other ideas which would be good to point out as "basics of this operating system"?

thanks in advance!

/me checks me book collection

Ok basically any Operating System book by Andrew Tanenbaum is great ! Then I have a book here by H.M Deitel, P.J Deitel and D.R Choffnes named "Operating Systems" the third edition which has two sections related to everything OS on Linux and Windows XP - just what you're looking for ;) ISBN number is 0-13-124696-8.

Here's a good starting place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux

Scroll down the page and you find a lot of links.

Another think that would be different between them is how user accounts and permissions work...

But as kel mentioned, you might want to be looking for some books...

The following is an overview on memory management in Linux. Its a nice overview of things. I wouldn't look past the books mentioned in the previous posts.[/post]
