No Sound?

I have an on-board CrystalClear SoundFusion CS4299, AC'97 1.03 compatible. I am new to Gentoo and cannot seem to find a way to make the sound work. I have "Crystal SoundFusion (CS4280/461x)" and "Crystal Sound CS4281" marked as "<*>' but recieve a "/dev/dsp can't be opened" error every time I enter KDE. What did I do wrong?

Does sound work as root? If so, try adding yourself to the audio group.

Negatory, does not even work as root.
