[solved]madwifi connecting to 00:00:00:00:00:00

My latest problem with madwifi-ng is rather strange.
When connecting to our access point at bootup it seems to find the AP but doesn't really get the right mac adress and therefore the connection doesnt work.
To fix it, I have to remove just about every module related to wlan and modprobe ath_pci afterwards, then restart net.ath0. It then discovers the right mac adress and the connection is set up. When merely restarting net.ath0 without removing the modules first, it always ends up with an access point at 00:00:00:00:00:00, which of course doesn't work. So now everything *kinda* works but this is _very_ annoying as my gf's pc is concerned and she is not as geeky as I am (although she is really great at figuring computer-shit out).
I have (just now) disabled coldplug in /etc/conf.d/rc and added 'ath_pci' to autoload.d to make sure nothing is autoloaded too early (device initiated services are *SO* lame) but I won't reboot for at least a couple of days, so I can't test if that does the job.
Running 2.6.18-gentoo on x86 with madwifi-ng-0.92.
Any thoughts?

I'm having similar problem, but doing

Code: Select all

ifconfig ath0 down
ifconfig ath0 up
usually helps (meaining I don't have to unload modules). Yesterday I've compliled svn version of madwifi and it seemed to fix that issue - since yesterday no problems with connecting. But I did't have a chance yet to test it deeper.

Sorry, just compiled and tested the current svn version (Dated 12/02/2006... revision 1823). Doesn't work.

Correctly detects the ESSID and MAC address, but still picks up the wrong channel, and won't pick up an IP address.

After booting, I can manually '/etc/init.d/net.ath0 restart' and it'll work.

This may be an upstream problem (smells like a race condition), but it's definitely not 'solved'... there isn't a working version in portage, and the current svn revision is also broken.

What revision worked for you? Maybe they've broken it again since you guys checked out.
