Without a bootable CD, the install can become a bit more tricky. (Okay, a lot harder.) But, really, to install Gentoo, all you need is the base system image (stage_-i_86.tar.bz2), disk partitioning tools (fdisk, mke2fs, mkreiserfs, etc.), and a way to extract it (tar + bunzip2). So, if you can get a Linux boot floppy, mount the CD, and run the appropriate utilities, you should be good... though, you'll need your wits about you, since the install guide won't work verbatim. |

I've always had great luck with tomsrtbt boot disk. Has just about everything you need on one disk

This bootdisk worked for me. I just sort of followed the installation guide from the point on where you extract the tarball from the CD and after that chroot to the extracted files. It seemed to work this morning when I left it to do the emerge system |
