Hi there

I have successfully installed beryl on nvidia (with kde).
Now, when I start up, the window decorations (I guess that his is emerald) flicker - I basically can't see the titlebar, there is just some flickering there where the title bar should be...
It's only after I run the emerald manager and select some theme (no matter which), the flickering stops...

What could that be?

I get the same problem on intel video (i810 driver). Strangely,
if I start beryl with beryl-start the decorations don't flicker,
but if I start beryl with beryl-manager, they do  the
the beryl-start command is a little quicker too since it doesn't
open the setting program ...

Once I pick a new emerald theme the flickering stops - just killing
and restarting emerald fixes this so I expect it's some kind of
timing issue about when emerald is starting as beryl comes up

this is still pre-beta software after all

you're right - it's still all very beta, so I can live with this.

I do start beryl together with KDE - KDEWM is set to beryl-manager...

I've had this as well. If you open a terminal and run pstree -p, you may find several instances of beryl (or beryl-manager) running. Don't know why, but if you kill one of these the flickering stops. I commented out the wm=beryl-manager option in /etc/env.d/99kde-env and this seems to stop this behaviour. Now if I find kde starting without beryl, I simply restart beryl-manager using the panel applet.

It's a bug. It happens to me too on my new install and it happened to me on my old install. Remember, Beryl is only 0.1.1. That's like beginner alpha, so expectations are pretty high.

For me, sometimes restarting the box fixes it or restarting the windeco and then wm fixes it. Otherwise, you can always switch back to KWin or Metacity if you don't want to reboot.

The other alternative is to use aquamarine which is new windeco for Beryl that allows it to natively use KWin decos. There is also heliorod which uses Metacity windecos natively with Beryl.

Check that out. I'm looking into Heliorod. I might have spelled the names wrong, so check the Wiki.

If this is the same thing I've seen:

Code:
killall beryl-manager && beryl-manager

Should fix it...

This has been fixed (hopefully) in svn
http://bugs.beryl-project.org/ticket/566

from reading the svn logs I think that means it'll be fixed in 0.1.2 which is pending inclusion into portage:
