|
|
Ran into a strange portage problem. If I 'emerge portage' then nothing works:
mondas ~ # emerge portage
Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Emerging (1 of 1) sys-apps/portage-2.1.2_rc1-r1 to /
mondas ~ #
It stops after the first line so to speak, and if I try 'emerge --sync':
mondas ~ # emerge --sync
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://193.190.198.20/gentoo-portage...
>>> Checking server timestamp ...
>>> Retrying...
etc, until it times out.
Downloading an old portage and copying /pym and /bin over the top of the existing portage makes everything work again until I do another 'emerge portage' to bring it up to date and it breaks again.
Can anyone give me an idea what to do next?
mondas profile.d # emerge --info
!!! No gcc found. You probably need to 'source /etc/profile'
!!! to update the environment of this terminal and possibly
!!! other terminals also.

do you have
if you do...
try checking your SYNC variable in make.conf
such as
SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
and try syncing again
also i`d like to see
emerge --debug --verbose portage |

ping and traceroute work perfectly - sorry I should have made clear that my network connection remains intact.
I've also tried various SYNC servers in the USA and Japan with the same result.

I fight with this problem about a week ;(
Code: |
comp / # gcc-config -l
[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6
[2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardened
[3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardenednopie
[4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardenednopiessp
[5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardenednossp
[6] i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.1 *
|
I'll try gcc-config 6 (of cource with env-update && source /etc/profile)
I have about a 5 computers with gentoo and I compare some gcc config files, env files etc. They all right.
I created bin packages of gcc-3.4.6-r1, gcc-4.1.1-r1 and portage-2.1.2_rc1-r3 and unpack them from / (tar xvjpf) because emerge -K fails
(of course I check and fix /var/db/ etc.)
Code: |
comp / # emerge -K portage
Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Emerging (1 of 1) sys-apps/portage-2.1.2_rc1-r1 to /
>>> Extracting info
>>> Extracting portage-2.1.2_rc1-r1
!!! Error Extracting '/usr/portage/packages/All/portage-2.1.2_rc1-r1.tbz2'
|
I had a look /usr/lib/portage/bin/emerge and found where emerge check gcc availability
Code: |
def getgccversion(chost):
"""
rtype: C{str}
return: the current in-use gcc version
"""
gcc_ver_command = 'gcc -dumpversion'
gcc_ver_prefix = 'gcc-'
gcc_not_found_error = red(
"!!! No gcc found. You probably need to 'source /etc/profile'\n" +
"!!! to update the environment of this terminal and possibly\n" +
"!!! other terminals also.\n"
)
mystatus, myoutput = commands.getstatusoutput("eselect compiler show")
if mystatus == os.EX_OK and len(myoutput.split("/")) == 2:
part1, part2 = myoutput.split("/")
if part1.startswith(chost + "-"):
return myoutput.replace(chost + "-", gcc_ver_prefix, 1)
mystatus, myoutput = commands.getstatusoutput("gcc-config -c")
if mystatus == os.EX_OK and len(myoutput.split("-")) > 0:
return gcc_ver_prefix + myoutput.split("-")[-1]
mystatus, myoutput = commands.getstatusoutput(
chost + "-" + gcc_ver_command)
if mystatus == os.EX_OK:
return gcc_ver_prefix + myoutput
mystatus, myoutput = commands.getstatusoutput(gcc_ver_command)
if mystatus == os.EX_OK:
return gcc_ver_prefix + myoutput
portage.writemsg(gcc_not_found_error, noiselevel=-1)
return "[unavailable]"
|
of course eselect compiler fails. But all another tests have to work^
Code: |
comp / # gcc-config -c
i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.1
com / # gcc -dumpversion
4.1.1
|
Okay. I saw that problem is that python can't found gcc?..
I create python bin package and untar it from /
I try:
Code: |
comp / # python
Python 2.4.3 (#1, Sep 29 2006, 08:16:00)
[GCC 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1)] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import commands
>>> commands.getstatusoutput("gcc-config -c")
(0, 'i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.1')
>>>
|
So python work, gcc work (I can make kernel etc), emerge --metadata (I have NFS shared /usr/portage) work (it work on 5 computers)
But f*cking emerge can't found gcc ;(
Anybody have any ideas?
I don't want recompile all system from zero, this is not linux-style of solving problems.
PS Sorry for my english ;( |

Did you grep thru /etc particularly /etc/env.d ? Did you try some of the options of gcc-config Quote: | gcc-config
Usage: gcc-config [options] [CC Profile]
Change the current cc/gcc profile, or give info about profiles.
Options:
-O, --use-old Use the old profile if one was selected.
-f, --force Make sure all config files are regenerated.
-P, --use-portage-chost Only set to given profile if its CHOST is the
same as that set for portage in /etc/make.conf
(or one of other portage config files...).
-c, --get-current-profile Print current used gcc profile.
-l, --list-profiles Print a list of available profiles.
-S, --split-profile Split profiles into their components
-E, --print-environ Print environment that can be used to setup the
current gcc profile, or a specified one.
-B, --get-bin-path Print path where binaries of the given/current
profile are located.
-L, --get-lib-path Print path where libraries of the given/current
profile are located.
-X, --get-stdcxx-incdir Print path where g++ include files of the
given/current profile are located.
Profile names are of the form: <CHOST>-<gcc version>
For example: i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.2.1 |

This one only covers the original post, but here it goes anyway:
Have you changed your network recently? A new router or firewall, maybe?
Has your ISP changed its network?
It could be that rsync traffic (port 873) is beeing blocked... |

cthonus I am at portage- 2.1.2_rc1-r2 and am not haveing this prob. Check your make conf and the make.conf.example. There are some changes in particular EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--with-bdeps y --buildpkg". This changes what goes into Features. It used to be buildpkg went in it, now it goes into EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS. Theres a chance that something simple like this is screwing up your portage.
Iwas confuseing your prob with this one May have broke gcc while upgrading with CHOST change... _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |

yes ;(
I tried almost all options of gcc-config, they all work correctly but with no result for emerge --info.
All env.d and /etc configs seems to be correct (compare with another gentoo comps).

I think if he solve problem with emerge --sync (may be rsync trouble) this doesn't help solve the main problem "No gcc found" |

Im stumped. Im guessing that its a config file in /etc/env.d . One other thought would when you run python on the command line you should get something simular. Quote: | python

That was just a off the wall shot. It tells us python is not haveing the prob and sence portage is based on python then its isolated to portage.
One of you needs to post a bugs.gentoo.org go down to "Enter a new bug report"
The one thing I would try is to move /etc/env.d/05gcc to 05gcc.org and the same for the files in /etc/env.d/gcc/ . Then Code: | gcc-config -F i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc-4.1.1 |
