|
Ok my question is there any way to make multimedia key just work all around cause I have the basic keys on my keyboard. Like Play&Pause, Stop, previous, next, volume up and volume down mute.
I can find all the key codes and stuff. I was also able to set them in xmms using the logitech plugin but it didn't cause anything to happen.
I am really wondering if there is some way to just have the keys work in all the different music/video programs I have. I have also made a Xmodmap and put it in my /etc/X11/ folder though I am not sure what I am supose to have start if anything I have restarted X after putting it there.
I have looked around and have seen different settings to make certain programs work but nothing like a all around setup unless I just didn't realize it, or missed something.
The keyboard I am currently using is a Saitek Eclipse II. Which in my opinion is a very nice keyboard especially because of the lights and also that its not all fancy like a lot of the logitech keyboards have been getting. They make the delete long which is just anoying when you need the insert key for something.
Any help or suggestion or a smack over the head for missing something that I should have found will all be thanked. Yes I am crazy.(aka found the fortune thing in portage last night after seeing it while first playing with linux) |

No really, that's a good idea. Insert is one of the most useless keys. If I press it it's usually by accident when trying to hit delete. _________________ "Mr Thomas Edison has been up on the two previous nights discovering 'a bug' in his phonograph." --Pall Mall Gazette (1889)

I was looking at it before I posted and didn't notice anything towards what I was looking for but just a little bit ago(10sec) notice something that might work if I take the time and set it up.
I will be trying it later if I don't drive my self studying some more. |

My Xmodmap file is just in my home directory ( I only have one user anyway )
~/.Xmodmap
Code: | keycode 162 = XF86AudioPlay
keycode 164 = XF86AudioStop
keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
keycode 144 = XF86AudioPrev
keycode 153 = XF86AudioNext
keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume |
Then you need to have it load on startup.
~/.fluxbox/startup
Code: | # Load xmodmap
xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap |
You could also put it in your ~/.xsession file, or any other startup script you use.
Should be it. _________________ ...And then stuff happened. |

I have a Xmodmap in my /etc/X11 almost like that. Just for sake of my insanity not sure how to make it work automagically that way though need to look at something. Unless you know or some one else knows?
By the way does that let you control media in all players?
Thanks for the info
P.S.
RageOfOrder I just tried what you basicly have setup and nothing responds for me with that.

ok happy days i got lineakd to work for me but here is another question..... does anyone have some media-detect.conf or other players besides the basic ones that the lineakd site has.
Please and thanks to all
UPDATE:
Ok I added lineakd to my fluxbox start up and about all i can do is adjust the volume. but if I start it up manually it works just fine it just doesn't make any sense to me why it would be doing this. I have even tried starting after different apps that I have start up but nothing works but my volume like its not loading everything:
This is what I put in my ~/.fluxbox/startup :
lineakd -f /home/michael/.lineak/lineakd.conf &
When I start that manually it works but in the startup only volume control works.
Thanks again to all who have listen read and helped. |
