Yes, limewire. No ebuilds, download the linux installer from limewire.com.
One important tip: if you're behind a NAT make sure you forward port 6346 to your machine, and if you're firewalled open up port 6346. This will allow you to download from other hosts that are NAT'd/firewalled, roughly doubling the number of available sources. |

Seriously, if you really want to use Kazaa, downgrade wine to the previous ebuild that worked. |

Have been using this for a good while without any problems. |

ok, here's a new problem that maybe someone can troubleshoot:
i re-installed wine (totally) and i ran and i got the usage kpp.exe <filename> error, so, as instructed, i ran Code: | wine kpp.exe KazaaLite.kpp | once and it gave me LoadLibrary() failed....so, i thought maybe this was normal and tried running again, but i was back at the usage kpp.exe <filename> error again.
what do i need to do? _________________ I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it. |

Carrett, there's a new wine ebuild that fixes the Kazaa Lite problem.
btw, did you remember to re-unzip the kazaa and system dll's into the right places after deleting your .wine directory? |

The july version of wine breaks kpp.exe again
wine-20030709.ebuild does not have the kpp patch enabled by default.
Just uncomment the patch in the ebuild, all kpp works again. |

Yay! Didn't know about that, just updated to the new wine and nearly fell off my seat when it broke KLite again. Cheers for that one.
Now if only I could get SpeedUp to work and sort the corrupted icons in KLite... |

i finally got version 2.4 running doing the following:
use a CLEAN fake_windows and enable the kpp-patch at the wine ebuild.
then follow the steps mentioned above but with these wine config additions:
Code: | [AppDefaults\\Kazaa.kpp\\DllOverrides]
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"
"urlmon" = "native"
|
this works absolutely great except of some grafic errors at the buttons and tooltips are not working. maybe anyone could give me some hints how to fix it. |

what is a CLEAN fake_windows? I have tried several things and none of them work and what is the syntax to get this patch you speak of? _________________ what if the hokey pokey is what it's all about? |

wine-20030911 no longer contains a reference to the kpp-patch, and thereby seems to cause this error. |

So... the question is: Does kazaa lite work? Which versions do work? I had kazaa lite working previously, but haven't been able to do so with the newer versions of Kazaa Lite. Also, the newest version of wine ( at this point 030911) doesn't work for me at all. |

Has anyone been able to get the newest wine working with the newwest version of k-lite? i tried following the instructions on this thread but I am getting many different error messages:
"Unhandled illegal instruction at address 0x000f0043. Do you wish to debug it?" _________________ evolve or die |

Didn't work here. I might get around to adding the patch back in manually at some point and trying that. |

the most recent combination that works here is
wine-20030813 with kpp-patch enabled
kazaa lite 2.4.1
updating wine breaks kazaa as well as kazaa lite 2.4.2 or 2.4.3 does. |

Could you put the wine-20030813 and the kpp-patch somewhere on the web? Neither it or the patch are in portage anymore. That would be really cool so that I can use Kazaa again. |

You can also get the files from the online package database at gentoo.org. just have a look at the Attic-directory in the cvs-tree.
But i put the files from my portage overlay on my homepage. download here
hope it works. |

You don't have to downgrade...The patch applies to the newest version of wine. Open /usr/portage/app-emulation/wine/wine-20031016.ebuild in your favorite text editor, and add this in src_unpack():
Code: |
cd ${S}/dlls/oleaut32/
patch -R < ${FILESDIR}/kpp-fix.patch
|
Download CybeRDukE's tarball, and untar it to /usr/portage/app-emulation.
Code: |
wget http://www.fmi.uni-passau.de/~fromm/wine-klite.tar.bz2
tar -jxvf wine-klite.tar.bz2 -C /usr/portage/app-emulation
emerge wine
|
I haven't tested this yet (recompiling wine now), but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
EDIT: It works. |
