I edited net-misc/vde/vde-1.5.7.ebuild to include amd64 and "ebuild vde-1.5.7.ebuild digest" then "emerge vde" and got: Code: | linking libvdetap.a
ar ru libvdetap.a libvdetap.o && ranlib libvdetap.a
ar: creating libvdetap.a
ld -E -o libvdetap.so -L./ -ldl -shared -export-dynamic -Bdynamic \
--whole-archive libvdetap.a
ld: libvdetap.a(libvdetap.o): relocation R_X86_64_32S against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
libvdetap.a(libvdetap.o): could not read symbols: Bad value
make[1]: *** [libvdetap.so] Error 1
make[1]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/vde-1.5.7/work/vde-1.5.7/vdetaplib'make: *** [all] Error 2
!!! ERROR: net-misc/vde-1.5.7 failed.
Call stack:
ebuild.sh, line 1546: Called dyn_compile
ebuild.sh, line 937: Called src_compile
vde-1.5.7.ebuild, line 27: Called die | Moving along:
vde-1.5.7 is from October 23, 2004 and vde 1.5.11 is out but not in portage.
In Mar 26, 2005:
So the only think that is broken is portage it appears.
Does anyone have a working local ebuild for vde on AMD64 or should I write my own?
Thanks |

You could open a bug on Gentoo Bugzilla requesting the ebuild to be bumped, or you could also email the package maintainer directly. To find out who maintains a package, just look qat the metadata.xml file in the package directory in the portage tree - in this case Code: | /usr/portage/net-misc/vde/metadata.xml |
