Some newbie questions

1) What chost, cflags and cxxflags are possible? Can't find a list or something.

2) I want a really minimal install with fluxbox but want to be able to run some kde and gnome apps. Do I have to add gnome en kde to the use flags from the beginning or do I emerge the right apps?

when you emerge an app that needs KDE or gnome libraries, it will compile them too.. so you don't need to add kde or gnome.

ie, kopete needs one kde library, so when you emerge it, it compiles that particular library, and not all of kde. likewise you don't need to compile all of kde, just to use apps designed for it.

as for the list, I forget where it is.. maybe someone can remember.. I think it's in the docs somewhere..

you won't really need to change much, maybe add "dvd" if you have a dvd etc..

A list of flags can be found in the GCC documentation; CFLAGS would be http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-2.95.3/gcc_2.html#SEC6, and CXXFLAGS would be http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-2.95.3/gcc_2.html#SEC7. Optimization settings (http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-2.95.3/gcc_2.html#SEC10) can be added to both of these.
