I got wicrawl to run by installing the cpan stuff.
About the error you got, the new madwifi drivers don't respond to setting monitor mode with iwconfig. You have to use wlanconfig to create two "vaps".
You use one to monitor and one to run the plugins from.

wlanconfig ath create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta # creates the first vap in station mode
wlanconfig ath create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor # creates the second vap in monitor mode

Check your interfaces with iwconfig. If your tx is 0 or off on your sta vap you need to run

iwconfig ath0 txpower 17dbm

So anyway, wicrawl runs but it stops running the plugins at iwconfigassoc. It fails to associate and that's it. I tried editing profiles, selecting the interfaces in different orders and a few other things. No joy. This is a known issue with the wicrawl people.

http://midnightresearch.com/wiki/index.php/WicrawlTroubleShooting

I tried everything suggested and still got the same results. I had no problems associating ath0 manually. Discovery works perfectly, though. I'll play with it some more tomorrow night. Others seem to have gotten it to work.

If I can pry my laptop away from my girlfriend tomorrow night, I'll try to get this working with some different pcmcia cards. I've got a handful of supported cards. Maybe it'll will work better with a prism2.

The cvs version works, at least the iwconfigassociate plugin does. I had to increase the timeout to 60 for the dhcp plugin in the plugin.conf file for it to work. The checkinternet plugin failed. All the plugins have a .pl file and a plugin.conf. If the plugin doesn't work for you, you can tweak some settings in either of these files. Everyone's system is different, which seems to be where this program is running into problems.

This was tested using an Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC. If you set up your interfaces correctly, and follow the suggestions in the link I gave above, it ought to run for you.
This program seems to have some promise, when/if it matures. Until then, I'll stick with kismet and manually running tests.
