Hmm, I tried emerging irssi(both ebuilds) and found no way to get them working, always the same error 
Any ideas?

So I'm Back...
The packages kept running in, without any major fuckups.
The only thing was that libxml2 erred with its Python bindings, but emerging the latest (masked) Python ebuild solved it, and things kept going fine.
Too good to be true...
QT locks up big time, with the same error as posted before in this thread.
However, I've got both the Head an Tail wrapper-script in and confirmed working. So I was wondering if you guys had any other ideas? |

I just finished building a completely fresh box, bootstrapped on GCC 3.2.3 and Glibc 2.3.2, 2.4.22-pre6-ac1, and I had nptl in my use flags the whole time. GCC reports:
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r1, propolice)
Is 'Thread model: posix' telling me nptl is in/working, or is that something other? |

Dunno what thread model posix is for but it doesn't denote NPTL as the two systems I have access to are not using NPTL.
Look for a file in /lib/ with nptl in its name. If its there you've got NPTL working. If it isn't, well you don't. |

Ah well, an rsync just showed that my last app with a 2.6 problem (vmware) just got it's 2.6.* update, so I'll be on 2.6.0-test1 this afternoon. I'll rebuild -e world sometime in the next few days and get me some nptl lovin.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions, though. Too bad. |

I am probably way to n00b to even try this. But I was trying to emerge stuff with gcc 3.3.1.
First I emerged glibc and I received a lot of "inlining failed" messages when it compiled the iconvdata directory. I don't have the entire 'error' message, I just saw a lot of stuff with skeleton.c and to_ and from_gap (or something like that). I did continue compiling though.
Is it wrong to have the inlining failed error messages and should I emerge it again or something? Or is it normal that I receive the inlining failed messages?

| I think the inlining failed to call messages are due to the -O3 optimization flag. (I'm assuming it's harmless therefore, at least it doesn't seem to be a critical error) |

POSIX threads means the IEEE POSIX 1003.1c standard from 1995, a standard for the programming interface to threads, i.e. it defines how a programmer can program threads if the underlying threads architecture implements this standard.
Pthreads as well as NPTL (Native POSIX Thread Library) implement the POSIX threads standard, i.e. the programming interface for both is the same but the implementation is different.
This message you quoted just tells you that your threading system implements the POSIX standard. This could be via NPTL or Pthreads, depending on how you compiled glibc. |

Well..
I had compiled my system from stage 2 wid the gcc 3.2 ,
after getting acquanted with the new compilers and new flags and with the funda of bootstrapping ! i was very curious to try out compiling my complete system with gcc 3.3 !
After an emerge sync i still get gcc-3.2.3-r3 as the stable one.. but i can get gcc-3.3.2-r2 with the accept keywords...
so how shud i go about it ??
My flags are CFLAGS="-Os -march=pentium4 -mfpmath=sse -msse2 -mmmx -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe"
And wud i get more SPEED by goin thru the bootstrapping with gcc-3.3 ??
Please help me guys.. i really wanna try out the new gcc but am afraid of the consequences of goin in the dark without knowing what is the potential damage !!

Hi.,
Well as no one replied to my thread , i decided that it was time for me to learn it the hard way !!
So, i went ahead with the stage 1 install with an ~x86 COMPLETE system !!
Well everythign went fine, but suddenly while compiling k3b,mplayer, and kmess i get some strange errors !!
Mostly cuz of its dependebcy for libdv !! NOW WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ?????
How do i bypass this dependency check ??
I tried emerge --inject libdv, but it gave an error that

IIRC. And I don't thing just injecting this will get you to compile mplayer and the other packages that depend on it. What error to you get when trying to compile libdv then? Maybe if you post them here someone can help.

That is a nasty error I once got and SORRY pal, I really can't remember how I solved it. Search the forum for the string "libtool:cannot find the library", you'll get a few post about that error.
What you can also do is try to emerge earlier versions of libdv.

I had to modify the /usr/lib/libSDL.la ....
It was all due to the KDE-cvs that i installed !! MAN !
Anyways, i'll report this bug to the larryboy, who's making the kde-cvs ! maybe he can fix this !
